How Humidifiers Work
The most common type of humidifier is called an evaporative humidifier. It works through a water reservoir feeding water to a basin from which a wick soaks up the water and is released into the air by a fan. Before the moisture reaches the air it passes through a filter that evaporates it into water vapor. There are many other types of humidifiers that use different mechanisms to do almost the same thing. Steam humidifiers, rather than evaporate the water, it boils it and releases the steam. An impeller flings water into a diffuser that breaks the water into fine droplets. Ultrasonic humidifiers break down water into fine droplets using a vibrating diaphragm.
